Nov. 9.... An incredible night out on Paul and Katherines boat! We left around 8 pm with a partial moon reflecting off the water in Tampa Bay. Shortly after leaving the dock a blue glow appeared in the water behind the engines that resembled an underwater light but a very vivid light blue color. This bioluminescence was only visible in certain areas and always where the boat disturbed the water. It was quite apparent in some places in the bow wave where it was quite bright and reflected off the hull continuing out beyond the boat in the wake and was sometimes still visible 100' behind the stern. As we approached one area and at a relativeley slow speed and in shallow water hundreds of fish could be seen fleeing from the disturbance caused by the boat. They were visible by the glow of the florescence and some were huge in size and resembled torpedoes being launched. I wish there was some way I could have recorded this experience on film but due to no light and the speed, without the correct film (around 800 asa according to Katherine)it was impossible.
Sat. weather permitting we are going to go out at 5 a.m to see it again as we head 15 miles offshore where Paul,Katherine and their neighbour Bud are going scuba diving on a reef. It's not certain there will be an abundance of fish due to the red tide which has prevailed since last May and has just recently diminished.
I attempted to get some pics of the Skyway Bridge which is illuminated at night but due to the wave action time exposures were probably not feasible using my 35mm camera.
Another great experience in the books thanks to Paul and Katherine. Katherine has loaned me some books on Fla. wildlife (no not that kind of wildlife)and fauna so now when I take pics hopefully I'll be able to identify the subject.
Stay tuned
